VIDEO: SDCC 2015 The Character of Music Interviews
Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) returned to San Diego Comic-Con to present 'The Character of Music: Classic Horror Special Edition" panel. I got a chance to sit down with some of the composers from the panel for some one-on-one interviews and had some really great conversations. I talked to Maurizio Guarini (Goblin, Suspira), Richard Band (Re-Animator), Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th), Laura Karpman (Carrie) and Tyler Bates (Dawn of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy).
I put together two compilation videos that pull together several of their answers to questions I asked. The first is having them explain their method for scoring films (regular films, horror films in particular and even video games). What was interesting about their answers was seeing how everyone had a different answer but still moved towards the same end goal:
The second video has their answers to my question about what they would tell their younger selves knowing what they know now and with the experience they've gained over the years. While the focus is on making music, their answers are pretty great advice and inspiring for any creative person out there:
I really enjoyed sitting down and talking to these musicians and it was a great experience. It was very laid back and I could have sat and talked to them for much longer if I had the opportunity (and the battery life). I will be posting the full interviews for each composer hopefully later this week so stay tune.
