Netflix is taking full advantage of the fact that many of us are sitting at home to drop some heat. The Old Guard, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne is definitely something to not just add to your Netflix queue but to watch as soon as possible. It is based off of a comic book by Greg Rucka (who also wrote the screenplay) that will hopefully become a trilogy.  

Gina Prince-Byethewood is the first Black woman to direct a big budget comic book film (The budget for this film is $70 million) and while it is sad that it's 2020 and we're still having firsts like this, hopefully the floodgates will open up after this. Charlize Theron seems to only be getting better (and kicking more ass) as she gets older and we love it. We're also happy to see Kiki Layne getting this role after If Beale Street Could Talk and Native Son. It allows a young actress the opportunities that put her full range on display (From dramas to full out action roles).
