During Preview Night at SDCC, Amazon Prime Video let members of the press in to see their Prime Video Activation site. We received souvenir coins (Starting Thursday, convention goers will use those coins to get into the various activations), free Carls Jr from a food truck and several activations (The Expanse, Carnival Row and The Boys).

The activation for The Boys puts participants in the middle of a scene from an early episode. Two of Billy Butcher’s anti-supe acquaintances need help trying to figure out what happened in the chaotic crime scene:

  • Billy Butcher’s car has crashed through the front of the Bryman Audio & Visual store
  • Store employee Hughie Campbell is missing
  • The inside of the store is a complete mess and clearly shows signs of a struggle
  • The Supes will be there soon so there’s no time to waste

Participants need to follow the instructions of Butcher’s two acquaintances to help piece together the crime scene to figure out what happened. What follows is a chaotic search for clues guided by two hyperactive and colorful actors who really nail the vibe of the show. If there’s one downside it’s that unless they’ve already seen the show (we got early screener access to season 1) or read the comic, the significance of the scene and some of the items might not resonate with some participants. Still, it’s fun and interactive and will end with participants chanting “Fuck Supes”. Definitely worth checking out this week of the con along with the other activations in the Amazon Prime Video area.
