mike-colterMarvel and Netflix are proud to announce that Mike Colter will star as Luke Cage in "Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015 following "Marvel's Daredevil."

During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.

Colter will star opposite Krysten Ritter, who plays the title role in “Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.”

“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”

"Fans have longed to see Luke Cage brought and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television. "Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.” Marvel.com

After the confirmation of Krysten Ritter, it was all be confirmed that Mike Colter would be Luke Cage.  Talk was that Colter was the one Marvel was having candidates for Jessica Jones read lines with.  I think it's a good choice.  Solid actor and he has the look.    I also love that he's going to be in about half of the Jessica Jones episodes.  It's not mentioned here but we know Luke Cage is also getting his own 13 episode Netflix series so he's going to get a lot of screen time.  Once again, I have to point out that comic book movies/TV shows are going against traditional Hollywood claims that black actors/actress & diversity are too hard to do.  People keep talking about the "comic book movie/tv show bubble" but I don't see it happening any time soon as long as these movies and shows keep the diversity going.  While the rest of Hollywood is running away and making excuses for why they can't be more diverse, this genre is embracing it and I think that will lead to them being rewarded with fans and audiences that will support them.  Can't wait to see what Marvel & Colter do with this character.
