It's almost that time! Marvel's Black Panther opens this week and I know we're all excited. Now we've already covered the King of Wakanda in a hour+ long Character Corner. But I figured it was time for a quick refresher. So I've done a shortened version (still came out to about 25 minutes) and cover some of the key issues and moments through the long history of T'Challa and Wakanda.  This is a character that's been around since July 1966 and even pre-dates the founding of the Black Panther Party.

This video breaks down the long history of the first mainstream African/African-American super hero, from Stan Lee & Jack Kirby to today and Ta Nehisi Coates and more.

Key Issues:

  • Fantastic Four #52 -First Appearance of T'Challa Black Panther (Stan Lee & Jack Kirby)
  • Fantastic Four #53 - First appearance of Ulysses Klaue
  • Jungle Action #5 - 24
  • Jungle Action #6 - First appearance of Erik Killmonger
  • Black Panther volume 3 - Christopher Priest
  • Black Panther Volume 4 - Reginald Hudlin
    • #2 - First Appearance of Shuri
    • #18 - Black Panther & Storm marriage
  • Black Panther Volume 5 - Reginald Hudlin
  • Doomwar
  • Fantastic Four #607 & #608 - Jonathan Hickman
  • Avengers vs X-Men #9 - Marriage to Storm Annulled
  • New Avengers Vol 3 - Jonathan Hickman
  • Secret Wars - Jonathan Hickman
  • Black Panther Volume 6 Ta Nehasi Coates
  • World of Wakanda Roxane Gay
  • Ultimates Al Ewing

Check out our full Black Panther Character Corner podcast episode as well as Part 3 of our Doctor Doom episode. The Doctor Doom episode covers some Black Panther stuff from Doomwar through Secret Wars.
