Ever since Disney moved Kevin Feige & Marvel Studios from reporting to Ike Perlmutter to reporting directly to Alan Horn, we've seen some pretty significant changes.  First there was the change from Sony that Feige had creative control of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Then it's like the floodgates opened up when it comes to diversity in casting and it's been glorious to see. While fans might have been disappointed at first that Sony & Marvel were going with Peter Parker over Miles Morales for this Spider-Man, the rest of the cast seems to be acknowledging Marvel's devotion to diversity. Just in the last few weeks we got some pretty big casting news:

First there were reports that Donald Glover would be joining the cast in an unspecified role. Glover was subject of a fan campaign a few years ago to have him cast as Spider-Man. He has done the voice for Miles Morales on the animated cartoon. Glover is too old for the role of Miles in this Spider-Man film but it's great to see him as a part of the franchise.

This week The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Hannibal Buress is also joining the film in an undisclosed role. And because they weren't finished, the young star of Beasts of No Nation, Abraham Attah has also been added. Again, no word on what his actual role will be. Because of his age there will be a lot of speculation that he could be Miles Morales. While I'd be okay with that, I'd urge people to stop looking ahead to Miles and instead focus on what's in front of us now.  A film at this point with both Miles & Peter in it crowds the film and does neither justice. Can Marvel Studios pull it off? Of course. But I think folks need to calm down declaring every young looking black actor cast in this film as a potential Miles Morales. There are other characters as well as other ways to flesh out a cast.

"Other ways to flesh out a cast" is the thing that makes me really excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming. With all the castings we've seen for this movie, its clear that this movie will finally be a movie that cast a New York setting to look as diverse as New York really is. And that's a great thing.

In other news, production on the film as officially begun so now the question is: How much do we see at San Diego Comic-Con and which studio shows it, Sony or Marvel?
