First Trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse

This is exactly what I expected from a Bryan Singer helmed X-Men movie. Where I got pumped from watching the Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailers, I just shrugged watching this. It's not bad. But it's also just kinda dull. Doesn't really feel like a change from what we've gotten from Singer and so my fundamental problem with his X-Men films remain. But there are some bright spots. First the cast continues to look great. Also, unlike Days of Future Past, the X-Men will be in uniforms at some point this movie (granted, they're still dull costumes) and the action seems slightly better than previous movies. I remember folks freaking out over Apocalypse's look and 1. He's not purple like the set images made him seem 2. He does grow in size so no need to worry about that.

All in all, if you loved the previous X-Men movies, you're probably very excited about this. If you didn't then at best you can hope that it's at least entertaining. I will say that Singer's X-Men movies get a lot of credit for using comic book characters but not feeling like comic book movies. I feel that that is in direct conflict with what a X-Men movie should be. As a movie it will be solid (they all are) but as a X-men film it will leave me a bit disappointed. I will say that I'm calling that critics will love this film (for not feeling like a comic book movie in a sea of comic book movies coming out in 2016) and give it the best reviews of any comic book movie coming out in 2016. Then folks will call it the greatest comic book movie of all time (like they did with Days of Future Past) and I will get angry because it will simply not be true.
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
