Marvel has released its first trailer for the Inhumans TV show that will launch it's first two episodes in IMAX in theaters on September 1st before landing on Friday nights on ABC on September 29th. Now let me say this now: I love Agents of SHIELD. I believe its one of the best shows on TV and Marvel/ABC get a lot of leeway from me because of that. Agents of SHIELD introduced us to Inhumans and has given us some things that are truly amazing for Network TV.
I say all that to say: I'm not sure about Inhumans. Outside of Lockjaw (who looks great), the trailer doesn't really give off anything that really would capture the attention or drum up any interest. Honestly it looks like a network TV show shot with IMAX cameras and that's not a compliment.
Serinda Swan’s wig for Medusa looks as bad as it did in the original pictures. For a series that is touting to be filmed in IMAX, it seems like an oversight to not have a better design for the wig. Even then, that could have been forgiven if we at least saw Medusa using her hair in action but, we didn’t. We don’t even get Anson Mount using his infamous powers as Black Bolt outside of a grunt that sends some cars flying at the very end. Most of the focus seems to be on Iwan Rheon as Maximus and the mini-coup he seems to be planning against this own brother.
But here’s the thing, no one is trekking all the way out to a theater to watch two episodes of a show in IMAX for a political thriller. Particularly for what most fans now as the “characters Marvel has to use because they don’t have mutants”.
That said, I’ll still be watching this. Agents of SHIELD morphed into a monster of a TV show and I find it really hard to root against Inhumans knowing how well Agents of SHIELD has turned out. I’m hoping that the more we see from Inhumans the better it looks. Hopefully we’ll get more answers at Comic-Con.
