Darkest Hour Review – Gary Oldman Becomes Winston Churchill For an Oscar Worthy Performance

Gary Oldman's performance alone is worth checking out this movie. He nails not only the look but the sound of Churchill

Darkest Hour puts Gary Oldman at the front of the Best Actor race for 2018. Oldman's performance as Winston Churchill is worth checking out this film. Oldman not only looks like Churchill, but sounds like him too. This is the latest movie from director Joe Wright (Hanna, Pan).  Joe Wright isn't exactly hit or miss for me. Anyone who has followed my reviews knows that I was NOT a fan of Hanna. Hanna was very overrated and got touted as a "great action movie". Wright also has the dud Pan on his record. But Wright has redeemed himself with Darkest Hour. Gary Oldman helps by putting in one hell of a performance. This is one of Gary Oldman's best performances which says a lot for a man who has been Dracula, Jim Gordon, Zorg and more.

I also take a moment to address Mike Huckabee's attempt to claim Donald Trump as being our Winston Churchill. It's stupid, wrong and just annoying. But it's also something I knew would be coming. Churchill is depicted as a bit "unpolished" and having to fight against his own war cabinet, opposition party and King. But outside of that, there's really no comparison to Trump. Mainly because Churchill didn't want to appease or back down to Nazis and Trump thinks they're "good people" who he puts in his Administration.

During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.
